DJ Shadow Envelops All Sorts of Electronic Listening at the Majestic Theatre
A very moody evening with DJ Shadow at the Majestic Theatre was a completely enthralling experience, but not what you’d expect in the sense when you hear “Electronic Music Show.”
After Holly graced the stage on February 1, DJ Shadow entered and immediately encouraged fans to either “dance,” “meditate,” or otherwise vibe out to the tunes and samples he decided to play. Putting on a ton of deep cuts, we were able to hear a lot of b-sides and remixes.
Because of the style of DJing that Joshua Davis (aka DJ Shadow) performs, it was less of the type of crowd you’d see shaking at all sorts of frequencies at something like Movement Detroit. Instead, many took the time to physically draw their attention to the stage to listen and soak it all in, and there was no laser light show, or window dressing to make the performance a typical chaotic dance-off.
Highlight tracks included “Rosie,” “Kings & Queens” with Run The Jewels, “Scale It Back” featuring Little Dragon, and his newest single “You Played Me,” among many others.
