SaxKixAve Performs With Precision and Punchlines at Midtown GR
One of the things we talk about, especially in Detroit, is how to move the culture along in Hip-Hop. There are so many facets to it, but one of the main thoughts is that we need to empower what is out there that’s different — what isn’t the status quo or a copy-paste of what’s on the mainstream charts.
Alfred Banks and Albert Allenback of SaxKixAve do just that. With their unique flow, sax and flute, as well as the bars from both individuals, we’re taken to another plane of creativity when witnessing them live. On top of that, the synergy and comedic timing between the two of them feel like they’ve known each other for over 20 years, and you find yourself laughing as much as you are dancing.
Mixing the talents of these two individuals who have previously toured together when Alfred Banks opened up for Tank & The Bangas (where Albert Allenback rocked some killer instrumental), they have created a new sound all their own, so much so that they’ve been blowing up on TikTok as of late.
Their set featured some of their best material, including “Done With The,” “Kaleidoscope,” “Hashbrowns,” and fan favorite “Cheeks,” as well as a freestyle over a J.Dilla track performed by Banks on the bars. They also shared a cover of “You Can Call Me Al” from Paul Simon since both of their first name starts with “Al,” and shared an antidote of them performing that at a Juvenile concert and the crowd reception to that deep cut.
