L.S. Dunes Puts on an Intimate Performance at the Shelter
The supergroup L.S. Dunes graced the legendary stage at The Shelter at Saint Andrew’s Hall on Wednesday, April 23 to a rowdy audience who were ready to move the minute “Like Magick” began to play.
The stage is a close-as-hell experience where, if you were up front, you could reach out and touch the band (not that we’d advise that without consent). Anthony Green began high-fiving and shaking hands with the crowd before leading into the first track off their newest album ‘Violet’, and the crowd immediately went into the push-shove-wave of an audience with no photo pit.
No sooner than “Like Magick” ended, the center of the room broke out into a full mosh pit, and stage diving and crowd surfers braved the hard concrete in order to feel a boost of serotonin. The lighting was supremely moody, just bright enough to catch the features of the band as they moved their way through songs like “Fatal Deluxe” and “Benadryl Subreddit,” which both had accompanying merch on the back wall.
It’s honestly a blessing and kind of insane, frankly, that these talented veterans of the music industry will play a room with such immense access to them personally. Anthony Green has been in multiple iconic bands, including Saosin and Circa Survive, while Frank Iero runs with the legendary My Chemical Romance. Usually on the road is Coheed & Cambria vet Travis Stever, but this particular tour, he was not on board, probably due to Coheed being on the road in arenas and amphitheaters this summer. Rounding out the group are Thursday band members Tim Payne (bass guitar) and drummer Tucker Rule.
This was our second time catching L.S. Dunes in action, with our previous date at Riot Fest 2024. The band released ‘Violet’ on January 31, 2025, so the new material shared was thrilling to witness live, with not a single note missed between instruments and vocals.
The other thing we noticed, particularly in regards to the crowd, was how many under 21 x’s on hands we saw. As someone who spent years absorbing the music from these musicians’ previous bands, it was heartwarming to see how many young audience members attended and are just as in love with their sound as we were at that age.
The band is going to remain on the road until May 11, and then they will head out to Miami for S.S. Neverender in November. See all the upcoming tour dates at lsdunes.com.
