The Pretty Reckless Rock The Fillmore Detroit

On Monday, July 13th, I was very fortunate to have checked off two phenomenal artists from my bucket list that I’ve been dying to see live: The Pretty Reckless and Paris Jackson – on one bill at The Fillmore Detroit.

 

PARIS JACKSON

 

 

 

 

My evening began with Paris Jackson, singer-songwriter and daughter of the legendary “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson. While widely known for her famous family, Paris has carved out her own identity on the music scene with her own unique blend of Alternative Rock, Folk, and Indie, creating a sound that is entirely hers.

 

 

Paris’ set was engaging, with masterful lyricism and emotional acoustic guitar to back it up. “Bandaid” was one of my personal favorites, with a distinct, fun, upbeat rock sound to it. Paris performed two standout pieces, both from her unreleased and upcoming album, “HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE,” which is set to release on August 21st of 2026: “Maker” and “Ghost.” Paris brought a raw, authentic feel to kick off the show, with a blend of upbeat tracks and heartfelt ballads, setting the tone for an exciting night ahead!

 

 

THE PRETTY RECKLESS

 

 

 

 

As the lights dimmed, the crowd went wild for the main performance of the night: The Pretty Reckless. Frontwoman Taylor Momsen took the stage by storm, garnering the attention of the entire venue as a collective. Like many people from my generation, my first introduction to Taylor Momsen was through her role as Cindy Lou Who in ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas.’ Seeing Momsen now, who has carved out her path as one of the many legendary women in rock, was a legendary transformation.

 

 

The Pretty Reckless has cemented themselves as a staple in the rock industry with worldwide hits such as “Follow Me Down,” “Heaven Knows,” and “Death By Rock And Roll,” earning them their first platinum-certified album. Momsen commanded the stage with confidence and a powerful voice to back it up. As a photographer, I’ve gotten the privilege to shoot another one of Active Rock’s infamous women, Lzzy Hale. Seeing artists like Momsen and Hale continue to empower women and push the genre forward is truly an honor, representing strength, talent, and longevity of women in rock music. Of course, experiencing “Follow Me Down,” “Death By Rock And Roll,” and an emotional piece, “Since You’re Gone,” lived up to every bit of the hype. The crowd sang along to every word— even I got into it!

 

 

 

The Fillmore Detroit proved once again why it’s one of my favorite venues in the city. Between Paris Jackson’s heartfelt opening performance and The Pretty Reckless’ explosive headlining set, it was a night full of incredible music, unforgettable performances, and a reminder of just how exciting rock music continues to be!
