Dogstar Rocks West Michigan at GLC Live at 20 Monroe

Dogstar, who you may know due to their famous bassist Keanu Reeves, made their way to GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids on August 20 to perform for eager fans, with direct support from Archer Oh.

ARCHER OH

Archer Oh rocked the stage with a high-energy performance. The California indie garage rock band has a lineup of Arturo “Archie” Medrano on vocals and guitar, Pedro Hernandez on drums, Diego Jacuinde on lead guitar, and Juan Cabrera on bass, and began in 2017. They’ve had some time to hone their sound and the vocals coming from Medrano became our favorite interest point, as well as the guitar licks.

We don’t know the full setlist, but some of their tracks on another stop’s setlist included “This Isn’t You,” “Passiflora,” “Rotary,” “Easy Eyes,” and “Red Clouds.”

DOGSTAR

Dogstar came out to a ton of screams and elation of the audience. To remove the elephant from the room, there are quite a few people who probably got interested in Dogstar due to Actor Keanu Reeves being the bass player. However, these fans paid for tickets, so if they hadn’t already gotten sucked in, they probably did after the performance.

The band doesn’t do a bunch of crazy movements, instead, they focus on their technical proficiency. Lead singer Bret Domrose shared during the front half of the set that they will be recording another album very soon, which comes after the 2023 release of ‘Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.’ Much of their tracks are more of easy listening vibe than hard rockin’, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially with how good it sounded. Reeves does not contribute vocals during the live performance and doesn’t have a mic placed in front of him, but he does contribute backing vocals on the album.

The setlist heavily contained the album ‘Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees,’ along with 2 covers: The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” and “I Wanna Be Sedated” by The Ramones. Some of the other songs we weren’t able to find on streaming services, so we believe that they might be new tracks that are coming soon, or that they are songs that the band had years ago that have not reached streaming services as of yet. You can listen to the ones we were able to find below, and check out Setlist.fm for the full listing.
