Bush Brings ‘Loaded’ Tour to Michigan Lottery
Bush, with special guests Jerry Cantrell, Candlebox, and Bones UK played to an excited crop of fans on Friday, August 16 at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre.
BONES UK
Bones UK was a new band to add to our evergrowing coverage list, and we absolutely dug their vibe. Prior to the show we were bumping their tracks, which have a flair that we felt had similarity to K.Flay, but with darker beats and an overall darker sound.
Rosie Oddie and Carmen Vandenberg, who hail from Camden, put all their body into their music, with a funky tone that keeps you entranced. Their lyricism draws you in with that of a siren, but in a more punk-styled, dangerous sort of way.
Tracks like “Choke” and “Won’t Settle” were our favorite tracks to highlight. Check the rest of the setlist below:
CANDLEBOX
Candlebox is wrapping up on their farewells by joining Bush on the road. ‘The Long Goodbye’ tour was seemingly supposed to be their last (see our coverage here), but luckily we got one last round with the 90’s kings. They always put on a killer technical performance, and frontman Kevin Martin is very active, even stepping out onto the speakers to get closer to the crowd.
They stacked their setlist from mainly their self-titled 1993 album, but slipped in “Elegante” from ‘The Long Goodbye,’ as well as “Stand” from ‘Into The Sun.’ Check out the full setlist here:
JERRY CANTRELL
Jerry Cantrell sounds as great as ever. The famed guitarist and vocalist from Alice In Chains brought a backing band to tackle the best of the best in his catalog which included both solo tracks and songs from the famed AIC.
“Villified” kicked off the set, followed by “Man In The Box,” and further in the set he played some of our favorites from his solo catalog, “My Song,” and “Cut Me In.” The other Alice In Chains tracks that made the set included “Rooster,” “Would,” and “Them Bones.” See the full setlist here:
BUSH
Bush came to the stage with a ferocity, and a tad bit of theatricality in the intro from drummer Nik Hughes, hitting the drums in patterns and shadow along with the lighting design. The roars reach an inaudible level once Gavin Rossdale made it to his post at his mic stand, before truly kicking it into “Machinehead” off ‘Sixteen Stone,’ their biggest album.
Fans were screaming along with the songs, and the 58-year-old frontman has still got it when it comes to swooning ladies. There was a fan watching the show who offered up a text screen that said “I loved you in the Woodstock 99 documentary,” which is, frankly, something he probably doesn’t hear all the time. I could hear other women walking through the crowd swooning over Rossdale, and we are sure he DOES get that constantly.
The band busted through 16 songs, which spanned their career-defining singles, to mimic the ‘Loaded’ Greatest Hits release. This included “Swallowed (GLU Remix),” a few tracks from ‘The Kingdom’ like “Bullet Holes” and “Flowers on a Grave,” before boiling it all down to the 4-song encore that featured “More Than Machines,” a cover of The Beatles “Come Together,” “Glycerine,” and “Comedown.” Check out the full setlist here:
