Ann Arbor’s Hash Bash Spends 52nd Anniversary Soggy

Ann Arbor’s Hash Bash has happened for 52 years now, and a little rain won’t stop the die-hards from going out to the Diag to cheer the advancements in Cannabis, as well as boo the restrictions.

Hash Bash is first and foremost a protest. At High Noon, speakers take turns on the mic at the Diag to discuss the state of legalization, taking under their wing not just Cannabis, but also mentions of Psychedelics.

Adam Brook, AKA Mr. Hash Bash says “…the fight is not over. We have a long way to go.” He explains how for many years we’ve had promises made to us, from local legislation to federal when it comes to Cannabis and draws attention to how many dispensaries have popped up.

“You’ve got all kinds of speakers coming up that are gonna tell you what’s happening in Cannabis, what’s happening in the industry… I’m not that guy,” says Brook. “I’m the guy they want you to understand that my Marijuana movement became your Cannabis industry.”

Corporate Cannabis is an enemy in many of the speakers’ statements. Others express to know who you’re getting your product from, and know who’s on the right side of the fight. Others took to the mic to list the benefits of consuming Cannabis, citing the real science for our physical and emotional wellbeings when using the plant, as well as the use of Cannabis as a way to reduce the use of more dangerous substances.

Due to the rain, there were fewer people in the Diag this year than usual, and way more umbrellas. Still, others meandered their way to the Monroe Street Fair, which had vendors, food, and more. People began to congregate on the grass as the rain let up, and there was even a group that set up “hotboxing tents” across the lawn from Island Noodles. Prominent national brands like WeedMaps and Cookies were present, as well as locals with all sorts of goods and wares.
