Space Dive at Tanget Gallery Is a ‘Star Wars’ Masterpiece
May 4th in the Pop Culture books is a special day for Star Wars Fans. You may have noticed everyone was saying online “May the 4th Be With You,” or the newest coined term “This Is The May.”
Well, if you’re into that sort of thing and can make it to Detroit, Michigan, Space Dive at the Tangent Gallery is right up your alley. The Tangent Gallery, which plays host to many different art and music shows, transforms into a Cantina striving to operate in canon fashion, so much so that costumes are mandatory (no joke, they’ll turn you away if you’re not dressed up).
Fans created new characters and emulated iconic ones while lounging and watching battle clips from all of George Lucas’ properties while drinking specialty drinks such as “Blue Milk” and “Twin Sunrise,” paying homage to detailed callbacks from the movies. The main stage featured a slew of musical acts, and the decor was so immersive, those who have visited the Tangent Gallery before couldn’t even identify it in photos and videos.
A highlight for many (other than seeing costumes and people watching) was a hallway created from the back room, which emulated hallways from Imperial ships, and included a smoke machine, making it the perfect spot to take photos or make TikToks, looking like an out of this world badass.
Outdoors, there was more music, as well as a market selling leather goods to add to your costuming and ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ dice.
While May 4th is over, you can get your ‘Star Wars’ on at Space Dive for Revenge of the Fifth (May 5) for 35 Credits ($35). Additionally, if you’d like a more child-friendly atmosphere, May 6 from 11 AM – 4PM (children are free, adults are 5 credits). Details and guidelines can be found at SpaceDive313.com.
