WATCH: Joy Reid Delivers Her Final MSNBC Open

MSNBC’s Joy Reid of ‘The Reid Out’ was forced out of her position this past week, and while many will not bat an eye, thinking this was “business as usual,” it is absolutely a sign of the times.

According to the Independent, MSNBC has “canceled Joy Reid’s evening news show and held a ‘tense’ meeting with her staff after the news was leaked to the press.”

That makes all what happens next a slap in the face. Her slot, according to the Independent, “will be replaced by a show led by a trio of hosts: Democratic strategist Symone Sanders Townsend, former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele and journalist Alicia Menendez.”

They currently host ‘The Weekend,’ which airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and this bump will move them to a more prime spot.

Former MSNBC Host Keith Olbermann is reported saying that “his former network’s reported firing of Joy Reid and cancelation of Alex Wagner’s nightly show was ‘racist,’ noting that only four women of color have solo-hosted programs for the liberal cable news network – and all of them have been kicked to the curb.”

WATCH JOY REID DELIVER HER LAST OPENING ON MSNBC:

As described by the Associated Press, “In the hourlong newscast, held on weeknights at 7 p.m. E.T., Reid conducts interviews with politicians and other newsmakers — diving into an extensive array of political issues and intersections between race, culture and social justice.” Safe to say with that kind of synopsis, you can fill in the blanks on why this is occurring.

Rachel Maddow becomes the ally we all need to aspire to be, as she blasted her own network on air for removing Reid. The Hill quotes her comments as follows:

“I love everything about her. I have learned so much from her. I have so much more to learn from her.”

“I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door… It is not my call, and I understand that. But that’s what I think.”

“And that feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them. That feels indefensible. And I do not defend it.”

With these types of sign-offs happening lately, we hope that people will begin to open their eyes to what’s happening if they haven’t already and why we’re reporting on it here.
