Twin Temple Transported Us to Yesteryear With ‘God Is Dead’ Tour

Twin Temple brought a spellbinding performance to The Majestic Theatre on their ‘God is Dead’ tour this past Tuesday.

Instead of the typical vibes that we’ve come to know, the American Rock and Roll duo transported the audience back to the nostalgic era of the 1950s-60s with their exceptional Doo-Wop tracks that emit a sense of timeless charm.

As the twosome of Alexandra and Zachary James came on stage, they proved to those at The Majestic why not to sleep on this type of genre. The sultry voice of Alexandra backed by the phenomenal instrumentals of Zachary and the band were amazing to hear live, especially when they kicked off the night with their catchy tune “Sex Magick.”

Twin Temple weaved through their setlist, including fan favorites such as “Lucifer, My Love,” “Be A Slut,” “Satan’s a Woman,” to come to an end with the powerful “God is Dead.”

Each song was a journey back in time, evoking the spirit and style of classic tones of yesteryear with a modern, edgy twist, all while oozing authenticity. From the sleazy sax to their section of dirty horns, combined with the amazing lighting and wardrobe, you almost feel as if you have stepped into a Halloween film.

While niche, I see how this type of presentation could be dismissed as a cheesy gimmick. I, however, absolutely fall in love with bands that bring different aspects of life together that you never imagined could work. Not to mention artists who are so heavily focused on their theatrics and originality.

Growing up as a fan of Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley and eventually branching into different genres of music as I grew older, I flipped to the complete opposite of the spectrum and was drawn to Rob Zombie, Ghost, and Slipknot. A show like this proved to be a lovely mix. After the first three songs in the photo pit, I was absolutely delighted to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

What I feel truly sets Twin Temple apart is not just their musical prowess, but their powerful lyrical themes. Delving into topics like Satanism, sex, love, and addressing social issues such as individualism, feminism, and LGBTQIA+ rights, their music is not just entertainment, but a powerful statement, with those values only amplified by the phenomenal theatrics of it all.

As a fan who was swept away by their enchanting music, I eagerly look forward to what they have in store for the future. With their talent, charisma, and dedication to pushing boundaries, the pair are sure to continue surprising and captivating audiences.
