Chance the Rapper Gives Colorful ‘Coloring Book’ Performance at Dearborn Homecoming

Chance The Rapper graced the stage at Dearborn Homecoming this past Sunday, August 9, on the tail end of the 10-year celebration of his album ‘Coloring Book.’

 

The album, which was released in May 2016, won Chance a GRAMMY, while still being an independent artist – for the first time ever in the award’s history. The album featured collabs with heavy hitters like Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and T-Pain, to name a few.

 

Despite the rain wavering in and out, the crowd fiercely waited for the Chicago Rap Icon, and he delivered. Performing 22 songs, which included tracks like “No Problem,” “Cocoa Butter Kisses,” “Same Drugs,” and my personal favorite emotional jam, “Everybody’s Something.” That song in particular is special, as he’s been playing this track for years. The first paid writing assignment I ever did was to cover Chance The Rapper at EMU’s Convocation Center, and I remember hearing that performance for the first time like it was yesterday.

 

 

 

 

With growth and change, Chance The Rapper has stood the test of time and become a talent that cannot be denied. He is currently also celebrating 1-year this Saturday, August 15, of his latest album ‘STAR LINE,’ which is described as “a project that found Chance exploring faith, identity and community through a broader Black diasporic lens. The 17-track album debuted at #2 on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut USA Chart and #3 globally, introducing a new chapter in Chance’s storytelling and creative evolution.”
