Fontaines D.C. Floors Audience at Fillmore Detroit

Fontaines D.C. is rounding out their U.S. Tour in less than 10 days, and graced us with their presence on Wednesday, May 7 at The Fillmore Detroit.

The Dublin-originating band moved flawlessly through a 20-song setlist, hitting their high points with fan favorites such as “Jackie Down The Line” to “Boys in the Better Land.” We didn’t see much talk coming from the stage, with the band making the best use of their time with a stellar performance.

Primary lyricist and vocalist Grian Chatten was the most energetic, engaging the crowd with his eager demeanor at different points in the set, waving his hands in the air and leaning in toward the crowd’s barricade riders. He also played the tambourine on some of the songs we witnessed, reminiscent of tabloid foe — Oasis’ Liam Gallagher.

For the encore, the band performed the block of songs “In the Modern World,” “Desire,” “I Love You,” and their top Spotify-streamed song “Starburster.” During the last song, the crowd was still raging, feeding off of Chatten’s energy, to the point that the barricade was rattling, which made for a core memory for both fans and photographers in the pit.
