An Unforgettable Spectacle: OK Go Sells Out Majestic Theatre
OK Go is currently traveling the country to promote their new album, ‘And The Adjacent Possible,’ and the band brought their widely entertaining show to a sold-out crowd at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit on Saturday, April 26th.
L.A. Exes, a queer alternative indie band from California, kicked off the night in their matching red suits. Performing songs of theirs such as “Skinny Dipping” and “I Don’t Want to be Poly.” One of the highlights was when they closed out their set with an impressive cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger.”
OK Go launched into their set with “This Too Shall Pass,” shooting off blue and white confetti during the first minute of walking onstage. Every two songs or so featured new colors raining down on the crowd as stagehands repeatedly refilled the cannons. Lead singer Damian Kulash is a real showman, frequently interacting with the audience by climbing over the barricade and allowing fans to ask questions in between songs. Questions ranged from an adorable little girl asking for tips on becoming a better singer to someone else asking if he had seen ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ which made the crowd erupt into laughter.
The band treated fans to several tracks from their new album, including “Take Me With You,” “Better Than This,” and “Love.” One very memorable moment was when the group played a beautifully coordinated “Shooting the Moon” on handbells, which was a calming break from the show’s fast pace.
Halfway through their set, Damian made his way to the middle of the crowd to play an intimate acoustic version of “This Is How It Ends.” The band returned for an encore of three songs, ending this incredible concert with “The One Moment.” Overall, OK Go’s show was a family-friendly spectacle that radiated an insane amount of energy that kept everyone entertained.
