On Tuesday, April 8, Bright Eyes and special guest Cursive put on an emotional and elevated show at Royal Oak Music Theatre.
CURSIVE
Cursive is a band that you don’t see tour too often, but they are absolutely worth catching if you can! With a full band that contains more than a standard setup, including electric strings, horns, and more, you feel like you’re watching something a tad more orchestral or sophisticated, even with the emo and post-hardcore undertones.
Fans were locked in as they performed, and on top of playing some of their best like “Art is Hard” and “Driftwood: A Fairytale,” the band decided also to give us a performance of a Bright Eyes song that wouldn’t make that band’s setlist, melding “Lover I Don’t Have To Love” with their song “The Recluse.”
Cursive also took a moment to speak out on loving the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as immigrants, to stand up against the current administration.

BRIGHT EYES
Bright Eyes took the stage and kept the crowd engaged as they powered through their 22-song set. Touring on the 2024 album ‘Five Dices, All Threes,’ the band kicked off their set with 2 tracks from the album, “Bells and Whistles,” and “El Capitan.”
For older fans of Bright Eyes, they went back 20 years to 2005 to play tracks throughout the setlist, including songs like “We Are Nowhere and It’s Now,” First Day of My Life” and “At The Bottom of Everything” from their album ‘I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning.’ The only track we got from one of their vintage and most iconic albums was “Method Acting” from the 2002 release ‘LIFTED or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground.’
While the setlist was stacked with more recent work, that gave fans from years prior an opportunity to educate themselves on this version of Bright Eyes rather than the nostalgic factor. If you’re a fan of a solid performance, we urge you to head to thisisbrighteyes.com/tour and find the next closest date near you!
