PHOTOS: We The People Dissent Protest March in Detroit
On March 8, which coincided with International Women’s Day, a large group of protesters gathered outside of the Detroit Institute of Arts before beginning a march down Woodward Avenue toward Grand Circus Park.
This protest hoped to show the world that the American people do not dissent, and that we will continue to fight against oligarchy, racism, sexism, hate, and fascism, as well as lead the charge to stop the attack on Democracy by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. A group of individuals led a speech, and some of the organizers and online activists spoke with Fox 2 Detroit about why they were out there today.
There was also more news support from The Detroit Free Press and a few other publications, which shows the word is getting out. With these movements becoming more popular, it was also telling that the activism was getting on the radar of others, as the Detroit Police Department had multiple squad cars and groups of cops in vans, most likely to have a presence if the protest “got out of hand.” They did not, however, have to interfere, as this group’s goal was a peaceful protest.
