Sean Paul Brought the Party to Fillmore Detroit
Sean Paul brought his Jamaican roots, live band, killer dancers, and all sorts of iconic music to Fillmore Detroit on May 14, with support from Columbian rapper Farina.
FARINA
The night kicked off with multiple DJ performances to warm up the crowd, followed by Farina. Though her English wasn’t fluent, she spoke to the crowd and thanked everyone for showing up. She also told a story in her language, and the DJ that was accompanying her on stage translated it for the American audience. Not only was she a great rapper, but being on stage with nothing but her music and dance moves to keep us enthralled, we were definitely impressed.
SEAN PAUL
It took some time for Sean Paul to hit the stage as he allowed multiple pals on the tour to perform small slots before his entrance. Once they hit their performances (and did an awesome job keeping the crowd entertained), Sean Paul hit the stage, and came out swinging.
The first few songs of the set included “So Fine,” “Get Busy,” and “Ever Blazin'” which got the party pumpin’. Then there was audible screams when Sean Paul glided into his collaborative songs with Sia (“Cheap Thrills”) and Beyoncé (“Baby Boy”). And he of course decided to end his set with arguably his biggest hit, “Temperature.”

Another thing we noticed during the show: Many people seemed to be hitting up the “upgrades” table at Fillmore Detroit, looking to pay a little extra to get on the floor from the balcony. I spoke with one of them, named Kayla, who shared that she felt like this was a show she needed to be on the floor to dance along with the rest of the fans.
It seemed like overall, everyone that was at the show had a blast, and it set the tone for the rest of his tour. See if Sean Paul is coming to a city near you:
