Rob Zombie’s Creative Chaos Hits Pine Knob

Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan erupted with energy on Friday, August 30 as the highly anticipated ‘Freaks On Parade 2024 Tour’ with Rob Zombie came to town. Following the previous year’s success, this iteration was a celebration of rock and metal at its finest, featuring a star-studded lineup that included the powerhouse acts Filter and Ministry, alongside the iconic Alice Cooper.

FILTER

Kicking off the evening, Filter brought an electric atmosphere to the theatre in a very fun way. Their first song was a cover of “Head Like a Hole” by Nine Inch Nails, followed by tracks from their latest album ‘The Algorithm’ and many more fan favorites. Lead singer Richard Patrick engaged the audience with his dynamic stage presence and raw energy, reminding everyone why Filter has remained a staple in the rock scene. During the band’s biggest hit “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” which debuted on their first album in 1995 and earned Filter a platinum record, all 15,000 fans rose to their feet to sing along to the rock classic. Their blend of alternative rock with industrial influences set the perfect tone for the night, leaving fans eager for more.

MINISTRY

Following Filter, the iconic Ministry took the stage, showcasing their relentless energy and a setlist that included favorites like “B.D.E,” “Goddamn White Trash,” and “Just Stop Oil.” With his signature intensity, Frontman Al Jourgensen commanded the stage and seamlessly turned the venue into a tempest of sound and fervor. The band’s industrial metal style resonated with the crowd, combining thought-provoking lyrics with hard-hitting beats that had everyone head-banging in unison. Ministry’s performance not only captivated the audience but also set a clear benchmark for the night’s rock experience.

ALICE COOPER

Next up was the legendary Alice Cooper, the co-headliner of the tour and a performer who never disappoints. With classics such as “I’m Eighteen,” “School’s Out,” and “Hey Stoopid,” Alice proved once again why he is revered as the Godfather of Shock Rock. His theatrical showmanship, coupled with stunning performances from his incredibly talented band, which consists of Nita Strauss, Chuck Garric, Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henriksen, and Glen Sobel, created an absolutely amazing environment.

Each band member contributed their own unique flair, enhancing Alice’s captivating stage presence and ensuring that every moment would be unforgettable. A true rockstar at heart, Alice’s sets were nothing short of mesmerizing from start to finish, with arguably one of the most notable sets being the beheading of Alice Cooper via guillotine during the songs “Killer” and “I Love The Dead.”  Watching Alice Cooper perform is a reminder that there are true artists whose essence lies in their performances, leaving the audience spellbound.

ROB ZOMBIE

Finally, the night came to an end with the main event— Rob Zombie himself. Even for those who have seen him perform before, his shows never fail to impress. With a setlist packed with hits like “Superbeast,” “Demon Speeding,” and the timeless anthem “Dragula,” Rob brought his signature blend of horror-inspired visuals and heavy metal sound to Pine Knob.

His presence on stage is magnetic, drawing in both new fans and seasoned veterans of his music. The production value of the show, filled with stunning visuals and engaging theatrics, only amplified the experience. Flames lit up the stage as Rob performed the cult-classic  “Feel So Numb” from his second album, released in 2001, “The Sinister Urge,” which was Rob’s second top-ten album in the U.S. The fiery show enraptured new and old fans alike, especially with the special performances of White Zombie songs such as “More Human Than Human” and “Thunder Kiss ‘65.”  Rob Zombie is one of those rare artists who perfectly embodies the spirit of live performance; every time he comes to town, it’s a must-see event.
