Hozier crooned the crowd at Michigan Lottery Amphitheater on September 14, 2023, with special guest Madison Cunningham.

MADISON CUNNINGHAM

We had not heard of Madison Cunningham before but that isn’t a bad thing – it means that we’ve got a new artist to investigate!

  • Rolling Stone described her music as “a new spin on West Coast folk-rock, with classical tendencies, electric guitars, jazz-school chord changes and alt-rock strut all living under the same roof”.

  • Who Are You Now,’ released on August 16, 2019, earned her a Grammy nomination in the following year for best Americana album. In 2020, Cunningham released her third EP, Wednesday, covering songs by Tom Waits, Radiohead, John Mayer and the Beatles.

  • On August 3, 2022, the artist made an appearance at NPR’s Tiny Desk, playing four songs from her upcoming studio album Revealer

  • On September 9, 2022, Cunningham released Revealer, her third studio album. Consequences editorial coordinator Paolo Ragusa writes about it: “With each song on Revealer, Cunningham is proving that she can satisfy and surprise her audience all at once, and it’s one of the most delightful albums released so far in 2022.”[13]

HOZIER

Hozier has an amazing voice. It almost feels stupid saying that because if you’ve ever heard a Hozier song, you know that for a fact. However, you’d be surprised how much more amazing he sounds live.

He kicked off his set with “De Selby 1,” “De Selby 2,” and “Eat Your Young” from his newer works before cracking into one of the self-titled album tracks “Jackie and Wilson.”

The crowd was in awe of hearing Hozier and his band live. We have to highlight the other members who made the performance possible, along with whoever designed his stage set. The stars behind him at the start of his show really drove home the special event we were witnessing.
