Painfully 90’s 2 Showcases Killer Local Bands and Historical Bangers
Saturday, February 24, The Loving Touch played host to The Pleasant Underground’s ‘Painfully 90’s 2’ featuring some of Michigan’s best of the local scene, covering 90’s hits from the titans of Grunge and Rock.
The bands included D’arcy Moran as The Smashing Pumpkins, Great Planes! as At The Drive In, V*A*S*E as Soundgarden, and Antighost as Alice in Chains. While we didn’t initially plan on covering this event and were just partaking in a night out, we couldn’t help but snap images and video on our phones, and being wow’d by the range of each set of performers.
Each band brought their own flare to the covers they performed, including some deep cuts and fan favorites from each band’s catalog, and highlights included the crowd going berzerk for SP tracks like “Zero” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” At The Drive In’s “One Arm Scissor,” Soundgarden’s “Spoonman” and “Jesus Christ Pose,” as well as Alice In Chains “Man In The Box” and “Them Bones.”

In between the sets, bands reminded the packed venue that the same lineup would be playing a show Sunday at The Pleasant Underground (see the flyer below). The frontman of Antighost made a point of also reminding the crowd that if you loved what you were seeing at this performance, each of these bands put out their own original music, how important supporting local music truly is, and how even if you’re not able to support monetarily through merch, word of mouth and listening to their music on streaming services is a great way do just that.
