Movement Remains the Premiere Event of Detroit Summer

Movement 2025 took place in Hart Plaza, its home, on Memorial Day Weekend. For the fans of Electronic Music spanning across multiple micro-genres, it is a 3-day mecca full of day-to-night performances, activations, and a place to connect in a place of sound.

DAY 1

Day 1 splashed onto the scene with SillyGirlCarmen opening the day, with promises of epic performances from Jeff Mills, The Blessed Madonna, as well as a highlight on Detroit-based artists throughout the festival. Some of the activations on site included artwork across the campus, as well as connections with JARS Cannabis.

DAY 2

The draws for Day 2 included heavy hitters like Charlotte De Witte, Dubfire, Patrick Topping, Kevin Saunderson, and Walker & Royce, with our very own Raedy Lex locking down the vibes. The eclectic scramble of different styles was potent, prominent, and gave everyone something to love. Yes, that also includes Island Noodles.

DAY 3

The crowning achievement was Monday, with rising legend QURL on the Stargate Stage, fan favorite Claude VonStroke slipping onto the decks after Detroit’s superstar DJ Holographic, and other highlights like HiTech, John Summit, Ferg, Boys Noize, and more. The must-see set that maxed out the Underground Stage was horsegirl, who absolutely should have been above ground with how many people wanted to witness the action.

BACK TO REALITY…

This year was needed more than others. We feel the calling to address it. With so much of life becoming increasingly difficult by the day due to the current state of America, many of us yearned for the return to Hart Plaza, hoping it would provide a grounding experience while also allowing our minds to escape. It is hard to go somewhere and not feel the tug toward frustration, and battles against our fellow humans, but Movement is a place where you can check all of that at the gates or store it in your VIP locker, in hopes of healing in a frequency of beats.

For some, it is a time to create content and show off a slice of their life on social media, as is everything. But Detroit’s love for Techno and music in general cannot be masked with a thin layer of sheen, and cast through different filters. Detroit knows how to detect bullshit like that. Here you are, alive, with the rest of us, and the sound of our music will keep a piece of you, calling you back home.
