Foster the People Pump up a Sold Out Fillmore Detroit
Foster The People had a jam-packed house at Fillmore Detroit on Monday, February 17, with special guests Good Neighbours. Walking toward the venue, you could tell everyone braving the streets in that direction was headed to the show, and once everyone got inside and warmed up, it was body-to-body ready to absorb the tunes.
Good Neighbours kicked off the event, showcasing their vibe which we’d compare to that of major-player Young The Giant, and had people fully engaged with their jam sesh. At one point, the entire band froze on stage and lingered for a at least 10 seconds with no wavering, a muscular skill in itself given the positions they were in. Tracks like “Home” and “Ripple” had the Foster The People fan base pulling the band up on social and Spotify to make sure they could do a further deep dive, and we could see this band with its vibe hopping on some great summer tours in amphitheaters nationwide.
When Foster the People hit the stage, the sardine-like crowd was jammed to the gills at the barricade. One fan was so into FTP that he drunkenly offered one of the photographers $1,000 if he could get him in the right space to meet Mark Foster (don’t worry, this deal didn’t go down). Talk about rabid, right? As the lights went out, and the fans began screaming, the light rig positioned behind the band queued up and created a one-of-a-kind ambiance.
The band’s precision is absolutely solid, and hearing tracks off of the 2011 album ‘Torches’ helped the heart soar, especially for the OG fans who know more than just “Pumped Up Kicks.” Mark Foster danced around the stage when able to free himself from the microphone, and the light show accompanying some lasers was an amazing additive to the all-around sound. The band is currently touring on their newest album ‘Paradise State of Mind,’ but made sure to touch on favorites from their discography.
