Doja Cat Drops “Paint The Town Red” Single and Video

Doja Cat isn’t for everyone, but she’s not going anywhere, that’s for sure. Her newest track, “Paint The Town Red” is here, along with a new music video.

The release was much anticipated after Doja Cat changed her previous release covers to a red version of the artwork.

This isn’t the first big news for Doja Cat, and we’re barely into August yet. She is set to headline The Victoria’s Secret World Tour, “which is part fashion show and part documentary,” according to Complex, and will be debuting on Prime Video on September 26.

This is all ahead of her headlining tour, which will kick off in October. She promised to bring new music into the fold for the VS show, so it’s the perfect time for her to give everyone a primer for what’s in store for her first North American Arena tour ever.

OUR THOUGHTS:

The song has a cool, retro music bed, with the fierce as f*ck attitude we’ve been seeing from Doja Cat. The video is both artsy and macabre but is also poking fun in some of its moments. The lyrics also seemingly suggest that Doja Cat is calling out all the criticisms she’s received or things fans and non-fans have spewed online, including a line about not wearing a wig “to make you like it.”

It will be interesting to see how it is received, as many outlets have pointed out that she went head to head with her fans that were calling themselves “Kittenz,” for which she blatantly expressed her dislike.

The Los Angeles Times shared the best explanation of the situation:

“My fans don’t name themselves s—,” she wrote on her Threads’ account in a rebuke of the Kittenz nickname, according to multiple outlets that took screenshots of the tweets. She then called for the end of her fan accounts. Since then, many of her most popular fan pages on Twitter have deactivated their accounts or have bid farewell.
