Dave Grohl Has Got a Confession to Make: All You Need to Know

Dave Grohl dropped the info the other day that he has “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage,” and the internet is divided on their feelings about it.

The dangers of a parasocial relationship with any celebrity or politician are very clear these days, whether you’re looking at Trump Supporters or people who believe their favorite rockstar is an innocent god. While over the years, we’ve gotten a lot of good reports on the former Nirvana Drummer, solid PR of him donating his time and money to cook the homeless meals, many were blindsided and disappointed by the news that he committed adultery, and has fathered a new child outside his marriage as a result.

Posts on Threads and other social media networks have ranged from jokes like our headline, that Dave Grohl has another confession to make (“Best of You” reference from the Foo Fighters iconic track), to the dig that Grohl cannot resist a new side project. There are others, however, that are weighing his actions against other rockstars of his age and earlier, and giving him a pass because of his blatant honesty.

One of the Threads posts I found most interesting, was the take that as you pick apart his (or let’s be honest — PR’s) statement about the whole ordeal, is that Dave Grohl takes no accountability for his actions based on his statement. User @melodictunes said the following:

“Dave Grohl’s confession is a masterclass in men taking no accountability for their actions. ‘I became a father’ like it was something that happened to him and not a consequence of his own actions and choices. ‘I am doing everything to regain the trust of my wife and children and earn their forgiveness’, again focusing on what he has to do and wants and not the pain he’s caused nor a hint of apology for his actions. And that last sentence of ‘take them into consideration’, using them as shields[.]”

Other fans are sharing thoughts like “Yes. Cheating, lying is disgusting. That being said people need to stop acting like he cheated on you and you’re personally affected by it. It’s weird AF.” Or the complete opposite spectrum, boycotting the rocker’s catalog and future shows. The wildest of all? People backing up Courtney Love’s former statements about Grohl.

Another rumor that has been going around for some time is that Dave Grohl has been engaging in an open marriage for many years. That makes a lot of sense, considering the years of being a rockstar, traveling, and is a lifestyle choice for many in the entertainment industry, whether you’re comfortable with that or not. What probably isn’t part of that agreement, however, is getting someone else pregnant. Another Threads user posted this anonymous screenshot from Deuxmoi:

A new rumor going around online, which has been debunked by TMZ and Dave Grohl’s PR, is a user on Instagram going by @valeriegreyston, who claimed to be the 20-year-old mother of Dave Grohl’s new baby. The account has since been taken down.

As of 24 hours ago from the time of publishing this article, it was shared by multiple news outlets including People Magazine that dear ol’ Dave also may have secured a divorce lawyer before his announcement, but this has yet to be 100% confirmed. “Grohl, 55, has been married to his wife Jordyn Blum, 48, since 2003, and they share three daughters: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.” It’s been noted in the article that Violet, his eldest daughter, has deactivated her Instagram account, but it’s unclear if it’s due to this situation, happened earlier, or could be residual damage from the Swifties coming at her for her past criticisms of the mega-star, or after her dad’s comments on stage about Swift not playing live.

Other outlets like Us Magazine have been re-spreading comments he made years ago about Jordyn Blum eventually being his ex-wife, which could have been said in jest, but now looks pretty bad as the internet motions to cancel the Foo Fighters frontman. The story, which includes the late Taylor Hawkins, goes like this:

“’Taylor was the looker. I mean, girls would send him drinks,’ Grohl told the outlet in 2007. ‘Some bombshell comes up and starts talking to Taylor. I was just out of a Tenacious D session. I’ve got Vans trainers on, no socks, dirty shorts and a dirty T-shirt, surrounded by beautiful Hollywood.’”

Grohl explained that the girl waved her friend over, who was Blum. ‘I was like, ‘Oh my, God. Not a chance!’ So I’m just having some drinks and acting like a jackass. And by the end of the night I was pissed and I’m staring at her going, ‘You’re my future ex-wife,’” he said. ‘So she gave me her number: ‘Jordyn, your future ex-wife.’”

With all that in mind, make your own conclusions as to how you feel. We’re by no means trying to bury someone by publishing this article, but we also have to note that if you expect someone to be the “perfect human” and they’re a celebrity, you have probably already set yourself up for failure. As we previously mentioned, having parasocial relationships and idolizing people you don’t know is a dangerous game to play, and will usually leave you to being let down. As someone who used to always say “If I ever find out Dave Grohl is an awful person, I’m going to lose faith that there’s any good rockstars out there,” I feel your pain.

I guess until then, go ahead and displace your love for Dave Grohl on Jon Bon Jovi, who just stopped someone from jumping off a bridge while he was on set filming a music video, and we’ll go from there.
