Pink Changes Lyrics At Detroit Performance To Honor Britney Spears

Pink made a change to her hit song “Don’t Let Me Get Me” in a way that honored Britney Spears the other night at Comerica Park in Detroit, rather than the lyric that almost painted her as the villain.

Now, to understand WHY that is, you have to talk about the 2000’s and the culture around pop stars. At the time, Pink was referencing how a lot of executives tried to mold her into a cookie-cutter pop princess, and of course when you say the term “pop princess,” you’re obviously going to think of Miss Britney Jean Spears first.

Pink’s lyrics back in the day echoed her frustration, but in turn, sort of painted it as if there was something wrong with Britney for going along with it or being that way. We of course know now that Britney has had little control over her life after all of the press surrounding her conservatorship, and unfortunately, we’ve also seen the aftermath of the toll that took on Britney’s health.

Before the concert at Comerica Park, news broke that Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari were filing for divorce and that Asghari was planning to blackmail her to get her to change the prenup which awarded him absolutely nothing, which honestly would be absolutely 100% fair for Britney, given how everyone’s tried taking everything away from her over the years.

Pink, whether knowing about the divorce via the internet, or just the overall conservatorship and things Britney has had to endure, changed one word that made everything a lot more respectful, and honoring Spears in a way with her own little nod.

Pop Crave shared that Pink instead sang “Tired of being compared to sweet Britney Spears,” rather than the original “Damn Britney Spears” lyric of the song.

This comes after many stars and fans have been very vocal in and in solidarity with Spears and the “Free Britney” movement.

According to Good Housekeeping, “Asghari’s rep shut down reports that he’s threatening to exploit Spears to change the terms of their prenup. ‘There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos,’ the rep told E! News. ‘However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be.'”
