Motion City Soundtrack & Gully Boys Rock St. Andrew’s Hall
Motion City Soundtrack graced our presence at Saint Andrew’s Hall on January 3rd, and while we’d cue up “Resolution” this close to the New Year, the band was actually touring on an earlier album, the 20th anniversary of ‘I Am The Movie.’
This time they brought around tour partners Gully Boys, a group consisting of gals & non-binary pals to kick ass and chew bubblegum (spoiler: they were all out of bubble gum).
GULLY BOYS
All silliness aside with that intro, Gully Boys were killer. With their relatable tunes and their love and awe of their tour partners Motion City Soundtrack, they blasted off into the atmosphere of the famed Saint Andrew’s Hall with songs like “Russian Doll,” “Bad Days” and “Optimist” to kick off their set.
We encourage you to check out the full setlist here, because it’s 2024, and you should listen to the openers for a new music discovery, not just crank out the tunes to the headliner.
*This playlist does not include “Bad Day” which is a new song not yet released.

MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK
They certainly aren’t an accident, even though they have a favorite accident (and a cocktail at Saint Andrew’s Hall to match the sentiment). Motion City Soundtrack commands the stage with pristine stage presence as if it hasn’t been 20 years since ‘I Am The Movie’ came out. Justin still sounds flawless as they trek through the album in sequence of the release, meaning we got to hear fan favorite “The Future Freaks Me Out” within the first 3 songs.
Before kicking off the track, Justin shares that he and the band had talked about how cool it would be if everyone sang each song at the top of their lungs as if it was the last song of the set — and that’s exactly what attendees at the show did. It helps that “The Future Freaks Me Out” is a highlight of ‘I Am The Movie,’ but the fan choir continued throughout the night, elevating songs like “My Favorite Accident” and “Capital H.”
We also have to give a special shoutout to the merch table. You get a chuckle every time you approach as the tip jar asks you to “help send the merch guy’s cat to space.” Not only is that a highlight, but Motion City Soundtrack has some of the best merch on each tour. A great addition was changing the “Everything Is Alright” tee, a nod from the album ‘Commit This To Memory’ that we picked up during Sad Summer Fest 2023, to “Everything Is A-OK,” citing “A-OK” off of ‘I Am The Movie.’
Though this caught our eye (since this writer owns the first one), we HAD to get the death metal logo hoodie with the band’s namesake. Out of all the shows we’ve been to, MCS is the show we’ve always gotten merch from – a testament to putting your money where your mouth is!
Always giving a phenomenal show, we can’t wait till we see Motion City Soundtrack again. Check out the photos shot by Ami Nicole ACRONYM, and the setlist below:
*This playlist is missing the track “1000 Paper Cranes” which was part of the Japanese release of ‘I Am The Movie,’ and is not available on streaming services.
