Motion City Soundtrack and Say Anything Take Us Back at Fillmore Detroit

Motion City Soundtrack and Say Anything set out on the road with special guests in Sincere Engineer, stopping at The Fillmore Detroit on Tuesday, February 10. The vibes were immaculate, as there were many like-minded (and let’s be honest, similar-aged) individuals hanging out for a night of remembering our favs while seeing their newest material.

SINCERE ENGINEER

First up was Sincere Engineer. We’ve caught portions of their set at events like Riot Fest, but it was cool to see them on a tour leg where we had more time to absorb frontwoman Deanna Belos’ killer vocals and tunes. At times, the band members she’s got on the road provide the showmanship of the stage while Deanna keeps the whole vibe in check. They played 8 songs total, which contained some of their best jams like “Trust Me,” “Overbite,” “Library of Broken Bindings,” and my favorite, named “Corn Dog Sonnet No. 7.”

SAY ANYTHING

This was a long time coming for us, as Say Anything falls within the lexicon of classic albums of the 2000s with their album ‘Is A Real Boy,’ which just celebrated its 20-year anniversary last year. Songs like “Alive With The Glory of Love” and “Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too” are in the Emo Hall of Fame, and it was great to finally hear both of those tracks live. Another fun surprise for the fans of Taking Back Sunday: the recently re-joined Fred Mascherino was on this run for guitar with Say Anything, adding a killer added layer to the jam sesh.

MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK

And the final event: Motion City Soundtrack. They kicked off their set with the song “Some Wear A Dark Heart,” which was released on their new album ‘The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World’ released in September of 2025. After that, the photographers in the pit got a real treat: taking it all the way back to 2003’s ‘I Am The Movie,’ Motion City Soundtrack turned to one of my personal favs, “Capital H.” Most of us were waiting for keyboardist Jesse Johnson to hit his signature keyboard handstand, but he opted to move this to song 4, “My Favorite Accident.”

Motion City Soundtrack plowed through 19 songs throughout their show, including bringing Sincere Engineer out once more to perform the track “Things Like This.” Of course, the highlight for any millennial emos out there has to be any track from ‘Commit This To Memory.’ The band shut down the set, hitting us with the 3 biggest and favorite tracks from the band: “Attractive Today,” “Everything is Alright,” and “The Future Freaks Me Out.”

The tour proved to be a success across the board with fans of all ages rocking out, and most of us never miss a chance to see Motion City Soundtrack as many times as we can.
