Black Label Society Brings Legacy Heavy Metal To Fillmore Detroit
Black Label Society, along with Zakk Wylde’s Zakk Sabbath, slid through The Fillmore Detroit this past Saturday, March 28, with special guests Dark Chapel. The venue floor was packed and ready for heavy metal to rock their ears.
DARK CHAPEL
Dark Chapel was launched in 2024 with Dario Lorina (Black Label Society) at the helm. Their debut album ‘Spirit in the Glass’ dropped in 2025, and according to their website, “balances heavy, ethereal, and passionate elements.”
Lorina has been on a professional career path starting at 16 years old, as the touring guitarist with the late Jani Lane (ex-Warrant) and later joined Lizzy Borden. In 2014, he joined up with Black Label Society, so this was a full tour of a “family affair,” if you account for the fact that Lorina played in all 3 sets that night.
ZAKK SABBATH
This was the second time that we got to experience the excellence that is Zakk Sabbath. Starting in 2014, Zakk Wylde has toured with band members performing Black Sabbath songs, nailing them due to the length of time he spent working with Ozzy Osbourne. The band only set up for 5 tracks, but considering how long some Sabbath songs can be, it was the perfect warm-up for the main event. Closing out their set, they played the heavy hitters, namely “N.I.B.” and “War Pigs.”
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
Formed in 1998, Zakk Wylde founded his band, Black Label Society. Over the course of the band’s activity, they’ve released over 11 albums. Lineups have changed over time, but the current lineup consists of Zakk Wylde on lead vocals and guitar, John DeServio on bass and backing vocals, Dario Lorina on guitar and backing vocals, and Jeff Fabb on drums. The band just dropped their newest album, ‘Engines of Demolition’, on March 27, and are slated to be on the Louder Than Life festival this year.
Their Detroit show consisted of 14 tracks, including heavy hitters like “In This River,” “The Blessed Hellride,” “Fire It Up,” and my personal favorite, “Suicide Messiah.” Before the end of the set, the band played their new track, “Ozzy’s Song,” in honor of Ozzy Osbourne, who Zakk had a long-lasting friendship with, before ending the set with “Stillborn.”
