Switchfoot has The Fillmore Detroit Living in The Moment with their “Forever Now” Tour

When you think about positive rock bands, Switchfoot is one of the top bands that produce nothing but feel-good vibes.  That is exactly what they brought on a beautiful Thursday to Detroit on October 8, 2026, at The Fillmore. The VIP line and general admission lines were both hugging the side of the building and stretched for blocks for the band from California.  Anberlin brought the positivity and set the stage and the overall venue vibes, and was an incredible support to start off the evening.

ANBERLIN

As Anberlin took the stage in the dark, the screams filled the room. When the bright, colorful backlights hit, Matty Mullins (vocalist) took the stage with the biggest smile and incredible energy.  Bouncing off the risers placed off front, the entire band was on point that evening- talk about setting the stage and bringing the vibes. Mixing hits from 25 years ago with the few bangers that have recently been released from their upcoming album “Currency.” The setlist was absolute fire for both older Anberlin fans and the newer generation.  Starting with “Paperthin Hymn,” the headbanging was off to a powerful start.

The entire band, including Joey Mulligan (backing vocals, lead guitar), Christian McAlhaney (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Deon Rexroat (bass), moved across the stage at The Fillmore as though they owned it- so much fun to be in the crowd for the rest of their set, taking it all in.  I was in the crowd headbanging to some amazing Anberlin tracks such as “The Resistance,” “Never Take Friendship Personal,” “NEVERAFTER”, “HIGHSTAKES,” and “GRAVITY,” from ‘Currency,’ which comes out November 11, 2026. So many hits were played in a short time, as well as a perfect finish with the well-known “The Feel Good Drag.” Anberlin is a must-see live because that energy on the stage during their set had me feeling young again. Matty Mullins has been the perfect addition to the band, and it’s so fun watching them all live the dream and play.

SWITCHFOOT

Switchfoot’s “Forever Now” album and tour has been all about not knowing how much time is left, and not waiting until the last minute to do anything but living in the now- everything we think about for the future and living it in this moment.  As most of Switchfoot’s albums and songs have been such a positive and spiritual experience, this new album and era is no different.  The band came out to screams, arms waving, and the happiest crowd I have seen at the barricade in a while.  It was incredible watching families and multiple generations making an evening of seeing their favorite band- one that has always been wholesome and family-oriented.

The backdrop and entire style of the stage followed the newspaper collage theme, and it was such a perfect vibe for the entire show.  Switchfoot knows how to make a setlist- a perfect blend of fan favorites, older hits, and new tracks from the “Forever Now” album that was released in June of this year and is an energy-packed track list that is filled with songs you can jump around your living room to.  “Wake Up, Mr. Crow” started off their set with a silhouette moment between guitars, with brothers Tim and Jon Foreman playing together before Jon grabbed the microphone with his painted guitar and tore off to the microphone to belt out the powerful new anthem about breaking away from the robotic lifestyle, autopilot, and modern numbness while touching on the emptiness of saying “I’m fine” and having the anxiety of straight existing in these times.  I can’t tell you how perfect this first track was to set the stage for the entire show.

Jon Foreman (Vocals, Guitar, and man of the stage and crowd), Tim Foreman (bass and brother of Jon), Chad Butler (Drummer), Boaz Roberts (Guitar), and Jerome Fontamillas (Keys/Guitar) brought the immaculate vibe from start to finish the entire show and setlist.  Tim even took a massive leap off of the riser at one point.  Arms waving in the crowd, cell phone lights and lighters setting the mood- as excited as the crowd was to have Switchfoot present, Switchfoot was so visibly happy to be there performing for all of us.  We all soaked it in-it was an amazing feeling- like being with a bunch of laid-back friends at a beach bonfire at night- having fun and singing to your favorite songs- they made you feel like family for that night in the crowd.

After “Wake Up, Mr.Crow” was complete, somehow the band had so much more left in them! “Stars”, “Gravity”, “YFWYA”, “Shadow”, “Beautiful Life”, “Mess”, “Absolution”, “Shake The Dust”, and so many other incredible songs were played.  My personal favorite, “Dare You To Move” in an acoustic version, made me beyond emotional, as my youngest child was born to that beautiful song in 2019.  “Where I Belong”, “Afterlife” and “Meant to Live” finished off an encore, so epic confetti cannons shot off, and everyone in the venue was smiling and happy to be somewhere welcoming, accepting and downright positive.  Overall, this entire setlist was hand-picked for every single Switchfoot fan in attendance- whether you recently stumbled upon them and cherish the fast-paced “Forever Now” album, having you live your life right this moment, or are a fan of their older songs, you were happy and more than content leaving the venue that evening.
