PHOTOS: BOYS LIKE GIRLS, IDKHOW, and Arrows In Action at Fillmore Detroit

BOYS LIKE GIRLS, IDKHOW, and Arrows In Action thundered onto the stage at The Fillmore Detroit on April 6, and we were there to capture and witness.

ARROWS IN ACTION

This was our first time catching Arrows In Action. They had a stellar stage presence and would be great to see again on another lineup in the future. Some of their key tracks played included “Light Like You,” “Over It,” “Twice,” and “Cheekbones.” Learn more about them here.

IDKHOW (I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME)

We’ve got an Emo Nite alum here, my friends! IDKHOW (otherwise known as I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME) started as a secret project for Dallon Weekes, and shortly became a duo with Ryan Seaman. Both artists departed their current bands (Weekes with Panic At The Disco, Seaman with Falling in Reverse).

According to their Wikipedia page, “Weekes and Seaman began secretly performing in small venues from late 2016 to mid-2017. They debuted at Emo Nite Los Angeles’s 2-year anniversary event on December 6, 2016. After the show, different sources wrote about a “new side project” by Weekes and Seaman and confirmed the band name. Even when confronted with photos and videos taken at the shows, Weekes and Seaman denied the project’s existence for months. Weekes later stated that they did not want to exploit his and Seaman’s name recognition and association with the well-known bands they played in.”

Their unique delivery and differently styled music presentation brought songs like “Nobody Likes The Opening Band” as a perfect kick off to their set, and if there was anyone in the audience that didn’t know who they were… well… now they found them.

BOYS LIKE GIRLS

One of the bands that swirl around as an Emo-adjacent act is BOYS LIKE GIRLS, who became popular after the post-2008 Emo boom, despite being anointed with the Alt/Indie Label. Our professional opinion is that 2009’s “Love Drunk” is to blame for that.

The band’s fashion choices seem a little out of character in contrast to their music, coming out leather-clad and chainsmoking cigarettes (one band member took a drag before dropping it onto the stage and letting it burn), trying to drive home the differences in the band they were in 2006.

Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of their self-titled album, as well as the 17th year of ‘Love Drunk,’ the band performed both albums in full, and in chronological order — something that fans love if they celebrate each entire album. Fans were elated to hear these songs in full and have a somewhat intimate experience with fans who get it.
