Arts, Beats, and Eats Stacks Friday Night with Neon Trees, Sugar Ray

Neon Trees and Sugar Ray headlined the national stage at Arts, Beats, and Eats on Labor Day weekend, and we were there to capture the killer performances!

Mark McGrath might be the most self-aware artist to exist. Full of self-depricating jokes to a fan base who was absolutely thrilled to be there, Sugar Ray put on a hell of a performance, even with McGrath pointing out that sometimes he’s “key challenged.” Still, stage presence is almost everything, and Sugar Ray has so many number ones that it was an absolute blast to witness. At one point during the set, after playing their bangers like “When It’s Over,” and “Someday,” the band leaned into their 90’s roots by doing a medley of some fun tracks all across the genre, including “Flagpole Sitta” and “Pony” from Ginuwine.

I was not expecting that, and I am glad I witnessed it.

Neon Trees has a stellar sound, and it was on full display with a huge crowd to witness. Their best tracks, including “Animal” and “Everybody Talks,” were on the setlist, and their light show was spectacular. A perfect way to start the weekend!
