Paramore Releases Video For “Thick Skull”
Paramore, who’s been suspiciously quiet since their shift from their former record label has released what might be the last video of the ‘This Is Why’ cycle for the track “Thick Skull,” which was directed by Brendan Yates of Turnstile.
The newest visual takes us back to the setting of the video for “This Is Why” with Hayley Williams sitting against the wall with all the lipstick across her face, with minimal shots of Taylor York and Zac Farro driving the instrumental. There is also a frame where she’s sitting in the same spot, but looks to be cradling herself on her own lap.
As the song continues, she sports a new and shorter haircut (the same one from the photo of their GRAMMYs win), crawls into what looks like an old van (maybe an homage to an old tour van), before Taylor and Zac disappear and Hayley becomes the driver.
Because intention can be an interesting indicator of the potential subject of the song, there’s a striking resemblance to a shot in “Thick Skull” that may or may not be intentional. In the scene where Hayley is lying on her back with her arms up singing “come on out with your hands up,” the shot almost looks like a callback to a frame in “The Only Exception,” which Hayley openly expressed at the Detroit date at Little Ceasars Arena that she doesn’t care to perform the song due to it’s history, but understands it’s important to the fan base.

After the release of the cover of Talking Heads “Burning Down The House,” it’s unclear what Paramore is going to be up to for the foreseeable future, but they have noted that they will “see us in the next era” so we know they will be moving forward.
