On Tuesday, September 2nd, I had the pleasure of seeing online sensation D4VD live at the Masonic Temple, and it was absolutely fantastic! For those unfamiliar, D4VD is a rising artist known for blending dreamy alt-pop with raw emotion, creating songs that feel both intimate and authentic! Seeing that come to life on stage was absolutely incredible.
He opened with “What’re You Waiting For,” then moved into “Take Me to the Sun,” and followed with “Sky,” a trio of songs that set the tone perfectly for the night. Each track carried so much energy, and the crowd was completely locked in from the first note. I saw his performances on TikTok all the time, but to see how well he commanded an audience is absolutely amazing.
What made the night even more special was finally getting to attend a show in what they call the Jack White Theatre, a beautiful room named after the legendary musician himself. The space had an intimate yet grand feel, and it added a unique atmosphere that made the performance even more memorable. I’ve been to the Masonic in the past (most recently to photograph Stephen Sanchez), but I absolutely loved how the smaller theatre almost gave off a similar vibe to that of the Fillmore Detroit (one of, if not my favorite venues to photograph in the city).
Not only was the venue perfect for D4VD, but the floral setup also created an intimate atmosphere for the audience. With a romantic blend of modern stage equipment and earthy touches (ivy and roses), the set complemented D4VD’s indie rap style perfectly, creating one cohesive look and harmonious sound.
All in all, D4VD delivered an unforgettable show. Catch him on tour by checking out the remaining tour dates here.
