City of Detroit Releases Permit Guidelines Following Protests
The City of Detroit has released a graphic on their Instagram account talking about applying for permits for events. This happens mere 24 hours after Women and allies took to the streets to protest the threat to our democracy, as well as the protests happening in Southwest Detroit against ICE and deportations.
Here is the post they released:
There will be a divide of feelings when it comes to this. For some, the 2020 protests have left a bad taste in our mouths when it comes to law enforcement.
On the flip side, many are excited that they felt the need to post this because it means they are also seeing that people are rising up.
And of course, there’s the group who will feel there’s no reason to register any of this, as it is a protest, and a right.
FOX 2 Detroit and The Detroit Free Press both made it out to the ‘We The People Dissent‘ march on International Women’s Day, and it’s interesting to note that at the end of FOX 2’s clip, the anchor shouts out the fact that this was organized in a matter of days, as the City of Detroit’s notice on permits shares that you can apply for permits for events under 500 within a time span of 30 days, while anything over 500 is a 60 day wait time.
