AJR Dazzles Pine Knob with a Fantastic Performance
On July 29, AJR enchanted Pine Knob Music Theatre at their Michigan stop on the Somewhere in the Sky tour. The only thing missing was brother Adam Met, the ‘A’ in AJR. He has been focusing on his climate activism during this time, but he assures fans that he is still passionate about music and will continue to pursue both.
MADILYN MEI
VALLEY
The show boasted an array of musicians on the lineup. The four openers consisted of Madilyn Mei, Valley, Cavetown and Goth Babe. All the openers were extremely talented. It was really nice to be introduced to so many new and emerging artists.
CAVETOWN
GOTH BABE
AJR
Fans who have been waiting hours finally got what they wanted when AJR hit the stage promptly at 9:30 PM. The band has always been one for theatrics. Every tour they change up their performance, the visuals and the setlist… And somehow, AJR keeps managing to outdo themselves every single time. They started off their set with some bright lights and insane onscreen visuals that led into their hit song ‘Way Less Sad.’ As per usual, singer Jack Met was leaping all over the stage while brother Ryan jammed along on his keyboard. Fan favorites like ‘Karma,’ ‘The Good Part’ and ‘Interia’ were sprinkled throughout the setlist. Much to everyone’s surprise, the band even played their hit ‘World’s Smallest Violin’ from the middle of the crowd.
Every night AJR does a segment where they point out people in the audience. They find Ryan a new hat to wear, usually one that is conspicuous and unconventional. The hat chosen for this show was a giant squid hat plucked from a fan in the crowd. Jack also likes a good challenge, so he managed to see a sign in the audience that dared him to recite the most digits of Pi. They brought the fan onstage and she proceeded to recite a lot of digits. Jack ended up beating her, but only because he had someone feed him every number through his in-ear monitors.
To close out their set, the band came out for an encore of their song ‘Weak,’ but also brought out a surprise guest. The entire Walled Lake High School marching band came out to lend a hand on the song. What an unbelievable end to a fantastic performance. Fans always leave these shows with smiles on their faces and this one was no exception. AJR is one of the most entertaining acts touring today. The brothers have a few more shows before the end of the year, so be sure to check them out at https://www.ajrbrothers.com/tour/.
